"Every Birthday Deserves a Hero—Celebrate. Honor. Remember.
Continuing Matthew’s Legacy of Joy, Love, and Unforgettable Birthdays for Adults with Special Needs."
Matthew Garcia lived a life that defied limits. Born with Down syndrome and a heart condition that required surgery at just two months old, he endured ten pacemaker surgeries and countless challenges. But Matthew was never defined by struggle—he was defined by love, laughter, music, and the lives he touched. He was a beloved son, brother, tío, athlete, friend, and the joyful heart of his family.
More than anything, Matthew loved celebrating birthdays—his favorite day of the year. It wasn’t just about cake and presents; it was about being surrounded by people who made him feel seen, special, and loved. Sadly, many adults with special needs never experience that kind of celebration. Matthew’s Gift was born from that truth, created to honor his memory by making sure others like him feel cherished on their birthdays.
Matthew passed away on March 15, 2025, after a brave four-week battle with ARDS brought on by the flu. Even in his final moments, he gave to others—donating both kidneys and continuing a legacy of generosity. His story is one of resilience, faith, and the enduring power of love.
This project is our way of carrying that legacy forward. With community partnerships, we host monthly birthday celebrations for adults with special needs who may not otherwise be recognized. These events are filled with joy, cake, music, and personalized gifts—each one a reflection of the warmth Matthew shared with the world.
Matthew didn’t need words to speak volumes. His smile, his famous thumbs-up, his unforgettable laugh—those were his superpowers. Through this initiative, we honor the superhero he was and continue to share his gift of love, one birthday at a time.
Thank you for being part of Matthew’s legacy.
